Principals Message

Our college is a vibrant hub of activity with a strong emphasis on academic while having an integrated approach to learning. It is our aim that all students will graduate from us with a strong sense of their place in the world; equipped with the knowledge, skills and qualifications to carry them forward on their journey whether it be continuing in education or going directly into the workplace.

Through a strong support network of Teaching and Learning, Pastoral Care, Extra Curricular and Inclusive Practice, each of our students can engage in a meaningful way with their school life. We operate in a non-denominational, co-educational setting under the auspices of CDETB. Our student body comprises many different nationalities. This allows for a diverse cultural atmosphere in the college and supports inclusiveness, equality and understanding.

In the sixteen years since the establishment of the college it has grown from strength to strength. Scholarships in Football, Basketball and the Arts encourage a diverse learning experience and our fully equipped library allows students to develop literacy skills and engage with visiting poets, writers and creative artists. Our fully equipped sports facility gives students the opportunity to practice many sports including Football, Basketball, Badminton, Rock Climbing, Dance and many others.

Within our Arts Programme and Partnerships Programme, students can learn the importance of Service Learning (Giving Back to the Community), Theatre, Art, Radio Production and Music. See our news section for more on these. We have many links with industry through Business in the Community and Marks & Spencer, as well as mentoring opportunities with Irish Life, Accenture and many others. There is particular emphasis on enabling students to access programmes which will develop ‘life skills’. These comprise An Gaisce and Green Schools among others.

Our successes range from top 10 percentile of students graduating in the Leaving Cert to winners of the Michael Sweetman Award, to creating and presenting our own staff and student-led talks on 'Imagining Education'.

The Student Council and Parent Council provide a collaborative piece in the management and development of the college. The voices of our stakeholders are important to us.

The Board of Management play an integral part in the college supporting awards ceremonies, concerts and theatre productions and being there for our students.

It is immensely rewarding to work with the students, staff and parents/guardians in Larkin Community College. Keep an eye on our web page for information on Open Days, Scholarships and visiting our College. We look forward to welcoming you here.
