JCSP - What is it?
The Junior Certificate School Programme (JCSP) is a national program offered in over 220 schools in Ireland, overseen by Oide, a Department of Education Support Service. It operates within the Junior Cycle curriculum but adapts it to better suit students who may struggle with the traditional approach.
Rather than being an alternative, JCSP is an intervention designed to make the Junior Cycle more accessible and relevant. The program identifies students' strengths and challenges, develops tailored learning plans and maintains regular communication with students and parents about their progress. It focuses on key skills, knowledge and concepts from the Junior Cycle that are essential for student development. The JCSP aims to help students succeed, build confidence and stay engaged in their education. It also emphasises the development of literacy, numeracy, communication and teamwork skills. Upon completion, students receive an official profile from the Department of Education that recognizes their achievements.
