Reading Challenge Winners

The JCSP Team ran a Reading Challenge from mid-January until World Book Day, March 5th. All 1st and 2nd years were challenged to achieve an individual points target based on their reading level. Students “earned” points by taking the Accelerated Reader quiz for the book they have just read. Accelerated Reader (AR) points are based on word count and difficulty and AR uses them to keep track of how much reading a student has done and quizzed on. We had a weekly display of reading progress on the library notice boards and in the staff room post regular updates on social media.

The winners of this challenge, by 400 POINTS was Ms Fallon’s First Years, Class 102. We will celebrate with a Pizza Party next Friday.

Debbie Thomas CDETB Writer in Residence

The CDETB Writer in Residence, Debbie Thomas is continuing to work with a group of our 2nd years. Two students have been chosen to attend a Poetry Masterclass in Poetry Ireland on Tuesday March 31st where they will get some help preparing for the final We Write What We Like showcase in The Mansion House on Thursday April 23rd.

LGBT Meeting

We had a large attendance at this group again, we had lunch and a chat, our Guidance Counsellor checked in with students as a group and we watched a series of LGBT book trailers and books into movie trailers to mark World Book Day.

World Book Day Celebrations
The library hosted Genre Book Tasting sessions throughout the day, we also showed book trailers and screenings of famous authors reading from their novels.
Jenny picked up World Book Day books from Dubray and Book Station and O’Mahony’s allowed us to exchange some of our book tokens for the books so we had lots of books available to hand out on the day. We also gave out book tokens for those who wished to exchange them for WBD books or to get €1.50 off another book.

On Friday we created a display of books with strong female characters to celebrate International Women’s Day and Women’s History month and Michelle has organised a organised a book display for Seachtain na Gaeilge next week.
