Creative Writing group

Author Rod Smith met with our Creative Writing group during lunchtime on Friday 18th January. Some students bravely read out their work. Rod challenged each student to write and upload a 10 word story to Edmodo before their next meeting on February 8th.

Student Book Club

The Student Book Club met before school on Thursday. Students are reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. The group is facilitated by Bernadette Larkin, Reader in Residence for Dublin City Libraries. Our next meeting will take place before school on January 31st – new members welcome.

Sora App

All Larkin staff and students now have access to the Sora App, a digital library, from which

you can borrow eBooks and audio books and read/listen to them on your phones, tablets or laptops. To access our JCSP digital library collection, just download the Sora App and choose Larkin.

Logins: Each student has been assigned a login for Sora. You can get this in the plastic folder inside the library door, from Jenny or Michelle or email us larkinlibrary@gmail.com

Reading Challenge

The JCSP Team will be running a 6 Week Reading Challenge beginning on January 21stand finishing on World Book Day on March 7th.All 1st and 2nd years are being challenged to achieve an individual points target based on their reading level. Students “earn” points by taking the Accelerated Reader quiz for the book they have just read. Accelerated Reader (AR) points are based on word count and difficulty and AR uses them to keep track of how much reading a student has done and quizzed on. We will have a weekly display of reading progress on the library notice boards and in the staff room post regular updates on Facebook, Twitter & Instragram as well as the school website.

Celebrating Success

The winning class will get a special prize (maybe involving pizza and homework passes).Individuals who have been working hard will get prizes and some will get to go on an adventure trip. Students can have their Library Loyalty Card stamped/initialled if they get 100% on an AR quiz (at their level) and also for completing a book review. Full card gets to choose a prize. We will continue to award Centra vouchers as prizes for the 100% Wall draw.
