Library News Week Beginning 16th of September 2019 (15)

JCSP Introduction for Staff

The JCSP team organised a JCSP Induction/Introduction in the Library for all new and existing staff. We prepared tea/coffee and cake for our visitors. We were surprised by how many staff turned up and so ran out of table space. The co-ordinators and librarian gave staff an overview of JCSP and staff were given the opportunity to browse JCSP materials and order more JCSP resources for use with their classes.

Special thanks to Vyvyenne for her home-grown organic apples and Ms McKenna who made them into a delicious apple cake.

Erasmus + Job Shadowing

Larkin Library was very happy to host some school librarians and teachers from

Vimmerby in  Sweden and Saint Vith, Belgium for the morning on Friday. It was a great opportunity to demonstatrate the work that goes on in our JCSP Libraries and to welcome and learn from other European school librarians.

Language Speak Dating

Students have begun preparing for our annual Language Speak-Dating event next Thursday to mark European Day of Languages. So far we have volunteers to teach Romanian, Italian, Russian, Spanish and Irish. Each station were will be manned by students. We created a template with 8 words/phrases in Englishand each student ‘language teacher’ translates these into their own languageand teaches these to the visiting students and teachers. Students and staff who learn at least three words in their new language will be rewarded with jellies by their ‘language teacher.’

Students have begun decorating our library tree with Welcome messages in their languages.

Citibank Books

Thanks to all the students and staff who have been instrumental in suggesting books and creating a list which we would like to enjoy in our school library and which Citi have kindly offered to purchase for us.
