Harry Potter Day

We celebrated Harry Potter Day by showing the first movie, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, to a selection of the media studies students. During lunchtime we had Harry Potter colouring, origami and jigsaw making and then we held a Harry Potter quiz on Kahoot which was fun but loud.

Reading Challenge – Week 5

The Reading Challenge is going well, with most classes working hard at it but some to work a bit harder. Results have been posted on the library noticeboard and in the staffroom. Class 103 is in the lead with 455 points followed closely by Ms Hogan’s 2nd year English class.

Bookmark competition

We are asking students to design some bookmarks for our school - related to the library or reading or success. Posters are on library noticeboard and the closing date is the end of February.

Filmmaking skills - Thursday 6th February

A group from Screen8, an out-of-school programme run in partnership by The Digital Hub and the Dublin International Film Festival, came to speak to 5th anbd 2nd years in the library on Thursday morning. They discussed their careers in film-making and editing, their college courses and a free upcoming programme designed to give young people an opportunity to be creative and develop filmmaking skills and talents for a future career in film. The programme will run for four months with one group of and will be held once a week at The Digital Hub on Saturdays. At least 7 of our students signed up for it so hopefully several of them will get a place on it.

Music Project - 7th February

A group from the Liber8 Music Project, based in The Digital Hub, Dublin 8 came to the library on Friday during lunchtime. They played several pices of music, spoke about their instruments and BIMM. Students were offered a chance to participate in a Free 10-week programme where students learn about music styles, learn to play bass/ guitar/ drums or do vocals and get an introduction to recording and sound design. Approximately 10 students were interested so hopefully some of them will get a place on the course.
