Stand Up Awareness Week 2018 (23)
This week was Stand Up Awareness week in Larkin and was the first in what we hope will be an annual event. Our school is taking a stand against anti-LGBTI+ bullying & creating a safe space for all students to feel visible, valued, & included.
A positivi-tree was set up in the library on Monday with positive quotes for students to read.
Two of our Arts Scholarship students Ana Maria Nita & Amelia Jackewewicz made an imovie which was shown to all tutor groups in the school on Wednesday morning. A lot of time and effort went into the making of the clip and we all think you did a fantastic job! Well done girls!

On Thursday morning all students were greeted with a rainbow bracelet made by our arts scholarship students to highlight support amongst the school community for members of the LGBTI+ community within our school!
Allsorts LGBTI+ group from St. Andrew’s Resource Centre along with their Youth Worker, Lisa Downes, did a fantastic workshop with our 5th years for StandUp18. The young people showed our students a short video of their ‘Dear Me’ postcard campaign and students wrote their own postcards in groups and read them aloud to their classmates.
The ‘Dear Me’ postcard exhibition in the library during lunchtime (also by Allsorts) was very powerful. Over 80 students and teachers came in to have a look and write some postcards while enjoying some rainbow- decorated muffins and chocolate mallows.
A huge thank you to all the students and staff who made the first Stand Up Awareness week in Larkin the success that it was!
