Celebrating Identity and Diversity Fireside Chat
Larkin Community College recently hosted its second Fireside Chat as part of the Who Am I and How Am I initiative, a powerful project designed to amplify the voices of ethnically diverse and marginalised young people in Ireland.
A collaboration between Fishamble: The New Play Company and Larkin Community College, this initiative fosters creativity and social justice through theatre and the arts. Larkin’s student body is a rich tapestry of cultures, representing 34 different ethnicities. This project creates a platform for them to explore and celebrate their identities.
Through theatre, visual arts and restorative practice circles, students are encouraged to connect, express themselves, and gain a deeper understanding of who they are within the fabric of contemporary Ireland.
At this latest Fireside Chat, students had the unique opportunity to interview Dafe Urugbo, a multidisciplinary artist and musician. Dafe shared insights into his personal journey, his work as a theatre maker, and his music under the name @tebirexofficial. The discussion also touched on his passion for Formula 1, particularly his admiration for Lewis Hamilton.
This initiative continues to inspire students, helping them navigate and celebrate their identities while fostering a strong sense of community and belonging.
