Work Experience

We work with the NEIC on sourcing work experience for our students. The NEIC programme helps to open doors, raise awareness and aspirations and, ultimately, to provide students in Dublin 1 schools with access to and insight into professions and career paths outside their existing network of contacts.

Below are some of the business our students have got work experience in

M&S Skills at Work

The Marks and Spencers, Business in the Community Programme has been running in the school for a number of years. It involves the students doing a CV and interview preparation workshop with Marks and Spencers, mock interviews, a site visit to M&S and finally a wrap up session. Some of our students have also had the chance to do a merchandising workshop with them which they really enjoyed it! This is a really important module for our TYs as it not only gives them advice on how they can improve their CVs but also gives them feedback on their mock interviews on what they do well and what they can improve on. Thank you to Marks and Spencers for working with us each year on this module. It is always one of the highlights for our students.

TY Outdoor Pursuits

TY Outdoor Education is a 15 week module where students have the opportunity one day a week to go out and explore Dublin and Wicklow. They do a variety of water sports, rock climbing, walks, orienteering, coasteering as well as finding an appreciation for nature and all that their local area has to offer!! This is always a popular module with students and one they really enjoy!

Animation

In animation class students learn the basics of animation, they create storyboards and characters and at the end of the module should have created a short piece on film. Students also learn miniature set and prop design as well as how to make a flip book.
They can work individually or in group work. Group work is encouraged to build these skills in TY.

Wellbeing Initatives

TY Students support many of the wellbeing initatives in school. This years group have been working towards a Cycle Against Suicide Ambassador School Award and the Pieta House Amber Flag. The students have supported Friendship Week, LGBT Week, planned and delivered wellbeing classes for Junior students, worked with our Chaplain Ms. O'Higgins on In November We Remember. It is great to see so many TY students get involved in these initatives and in promoting them around the school!

Language Trip

Each TY year group get the opportunity to go on a trip to Italy or Spain. Most of you have studied Italian or Spanish for Junior Cycle and during the TY you spend the year developing your language skills and learning about Italian orand Spanish culture. What better way to put all that you have learned that going on a trip to immerse yorself in that culture! It is an optional trip. Students can pay in instalments. The trip is subject to minimum numbers.

TY students have the opportunity to take part in different workshops and trips out. This year some of workshops included a Public Speaking Workshop, a Personal Safety Workshop, a Debunking the Myths Workshop, Genetics Workshop, Drama Workshop and a Creative Writing Workshop. Some of the trips included a trip to Squirrels Scrambles,  Airfield, Awesome Walls, Hugh Lane Gallery and 14 Henrietta Street.
