Celebrating Diversity Through Art: Fireside Chat
We recently hosted our third Fireside Chat as part of the Who Am I and How Am I initiative, a unique collaboration with Fishamble: The New Play Company. This inspiring project is designed to uplift and amplify the voices of ethnically diverse and marginalised young people in Ireland through the creative arts and social justice.
With students at Larkin representing 34 different ethnicities, the programme uses theatre, visual arts, and restorative practice circles to help young people express their identities, build meaningful connections, and reflect on their place in Irish society today.
At this latest session, students had the opportunity to meet and interview Subhashini Goda, a multidisciplinary artist and dance anthropologist. The conversation explored important topics such as the challenges young people face in choosing a career, dealing with racism, and the need to feel safe and included in their communities. The visit also featured a captivating Bharatanatyam dance performance, bringing cultural expression to life.
Subhashini Goda is the 2024 recipient of the Emma O’Kane Bursary. To learn more about her work, visit subhashinigoda.com.
